Hello Hannah! We’re so grateful to have you here. To start, could you share a little about your journey and what inspired you to create your podcast What is Lovely?
“What is Lovely?” began as a God dream that was placed on my heart in spring of 2023. Actually launching the podcast was a long time coming, but I am so grateful for all of the ways my heart was transformed, my mind was renewed, and how I’ve even known Jesus more deeply since He first gave me the idea. I am really so thankful for God’s timing too. I have had massive moments of vulnerability during the process of creating and launching. Especially after releasing my first episode—my gosh, I’ve literally never felt so exposed and vulnerable. But this is where identity comes in, knowing who I am in Christ and who He says I am. I know my Father in heaven is well pleased with me because I am His beloved, and at the end of the day, I know I was obedient to Him. That alone is so rewarding to me and worth every moment. Whatever comes as a result of releasing this podcast, I am excited to see what He does with my “yes”.
Your podcast focuses on breaking off shame and inviting freedom—such a beautiful mission. How has your relationship with Jesus shaped the way you see freedom and led you to embrace this calling?
In His presence is joy and fullness of life. Jesus literally came down to earth to set captives free, and a part of that freedom includes being freed from shame, guilt, and condemnation. My relationship with Jesus has allowed me to walk in complete freedom from really heavy things, like self-hatred and body image struggles. Knowing Him has freed me from fear of man, and it’s helped me to be bold in the things He has called me to, knowing He is truly always with me and so, so for me. Knowing He actually wants to partner with me in sharing the gospel and bringing heaven to the earth brings me so much delight. Life with Jesus is actually the most fun.
Who in your life has helped you walk in freedom, and how have their kindness and encouragement impacted you?
My relationships with my best friends and my boyfriend have allowed me to walk authentically as the woman God has created me to be. I just moved to Wilmington, North Carolina after living in Dallas, Texas for almost 2.5 years, and I’m blown away by just how incredible my community in Wilmington is already. These people are the real deal, and I am so inspired by their hearts and the lives they live out.
I moved to Dallas from Upstate New York in June of 2022 after a really rough patch in my life, and I will be eternally grateful for the season I spent there. My best friends in Dallas helped me heal, and they really loved me back to life at a time when I was really very broken. Being loved well and supported by a healthy man of God has one hundred percent given me the courage to be fully me as well. There is something so special about being championed and encouraged to become everything God has called you to be, while also feeling full permission to show up exactly as you are every day. I will never get over how much his love has transformed me for the better.
Many of us long for deeper connections and the kind of relationships that feel safe and life-giving. What would you say to someone who feels disconnected and unsure of where to start?
I am wildly passionate about connection, and my heart aches for women who are longing for deep friendships. First, I would say that your desire to feel safe and have a life full of life-giving relationships is so healthy and beautiful. That’s actually what we were made for, so it’s so real to long for that.
My advice would be to find a healthy, Bible-believing church community filled with people who are obsessed with the presence of God and actually live out the Great Commission. In that type of community, you will not only be encouraged to live out the life you were actually created to live, but you will meet people with hearts that burn for the things that the Father’s heart burns for—His Son and the salvation of human souls.
Let me tell you, there is nothing more fulfilling than a life filled with Jesus and connected to people who desire to love and serve others really well. I know it can be difficult to walk into a new church for the first time or join a small group, but I promise, there is so much fruit that comes from doing the hard thing and stepping out of your comfort zone. There is so much fruit that comes from building relationships on a firm foundation of truth (the Word of God), vulnerability, and celebration in safe spaces.
If you could share a cozy, joy-filled evening with people who truly know you, what would that time look like?
Oooo I love this question! I would be around the table with my favorite humans, eating steak and oysters on the half shell along with other delicious foods. We would clink and cheers our glasses to the goodness of God, sharing in deep conversation while laughter fills the room. Maybe we could finish the night off by the ocean with an acoustic guitar, ice cream, and a bonfire… that sounds absolutely dreamy to me.
Hannah, thank you for sharing your heart. Is there a final thought you’d like to leave with us about embracing freedom in Jesus and meaningful connection?
Thank you for having me! I wanna scream from the rooftops that Jesus is actually alive and He is truly even better than we think He is. Knowing Him is the dream, and once you know who He has called you to be, you literally won’t want to be anyone else. A deep, intimate connection with The Creator of the universe is worth absolutely everything, and the freedom and love that is found in Him is better than anything this world has to offer. I pray that each of you reading this would encounter Him and taste and see that He is good.
